There were two notable Dollar Tree lawsuits in 2022:

  • Dollar Tree agrees to settle consumer protection lawsuit related to the sale of expired over-the-counter products. The lawsuit was filed by the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office in California, which alleged that Dollar Tree offered and sold expired over-the-counter drug products. Dollar Tree agreed to pay $2,894,050 in civil penalties, restitution, and investigative costs as part of the settlement.
  • Dollar Tree hit with civil rights suit over employee’s ‘You people’ comment. The lawsuit was filed by a Black employee who alleged that a white manager made a racist comment to him. The lawsuit is still pending.

In addition to these two lawsuits, Dollar Tree and its subsidiary Family Dollar also agreed to settle a slew of safety complaints from workers with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 2022. The agreement requires the companies to conduct a nationwide assessment of hazards at retail stores and pay $1.35 million in fines.

Dollar Tree has a history of facing lawsuits, including numerous wage and hour violations and workplace safety violations. The company has also been accused of selling counterfeit products and products that are not safe for consumers.
